Should I?

Privacy Policy

Effective October 30, 2026

The short version. We collect what the app needs to answer your questions and check in with you later. Your questions are sent to OpenAI to be answered. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites. You can delete your account from the app at any time.

This policy covers the Should I? app and shouldi.app ("Should I?", "we", "us"). Questions about it: email support@shouldi.app.

What we collect

What Why
Account: your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, they also send your name, which we store but don't use. To sign you in and to contact you about your account.
Your questions and what follows: the question, the verdict and quip the app gives, details drawn from the question (like its category and options), your gut call, your check-in time, what you did, how it went, and any notes you add. To answer you, keep your history, remind you to check in, and compute statistics about how decisions turn out.
Push token: an address for sending notifications to your device, if you allow notifications. To send check-in reminders.
Usage records: when you asked, how long answering took, whether it succeeded, the result of the safety check, and the question's length. These never contain the text of your questions or answers. To enforce question limits, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
Crash and performance reports: device model, operating system, app version, and what the app was doing when something went wrong. They aren't tied to your account and don't include the text of your questions or answers. To find and fix bugs.
Purchases: which purchase you have. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details. Our purchase service, RevenueCat, records your purchases with your account id. To unlock what you bought.

We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifier. Whether you agreed to send questions to OpenAI is saved on your device.

How your questions are answered

Before you can ask anything, the app asks your permission to send questions to OpenAI. Each question is sent to OpenAI's API to check it for safety and to write the verdict, and the verdict is checked again before you see it. OpenAI doesn't use API data to train its models and keeps it for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse. Answers are for fun and reflection, not professional advice.

Sharing an answer

When you tap Share on an answer, the app makes a link to that answer card. Anyone who has the link can see the question, the verdict and the quip, but not who asked. The link is long and random, search engines are asked not to list it, and it stops working when you delete your account. Answers to higher-stakes questions can't be shared.

Who else handles your data

We share data only with the services that run the app, only for that purpose:

We don't sell or share personal information for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

How long we keep it

Deleting your account

In the app, go to You → Delete Account. After you confirm it's you, we delete your login, email, push token, settings, and purchases record, including your purchase history at RevenueCat, and the links to answers you shared stop working. From your past decisions we erase the question, the verdict and quip, the options, and your notes. What's left (the category, your gut call, what you did, how it went, and dates) is kept under a random identifier that can't be linked back to you, so it still counts in overall statistics. Usage records are kept the same way, without any link to you. You can also email us to delete your account.

Your choices

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Your sign-in is stored in your phone's secure storage, and our database only lets you read your own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.

Children

Should I? isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Do Not Track

We don't track you across other apps or websites, so we don't respond to Do Not Track signals differently.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
